Production of structures for lamps"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pensar coas mans and updating tradition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>La <strong>Cidade Da Cultura de Santiago de Compostela<\/strong> is a spectacular architectural complex designed by Peter Eisenman and located on Mount Gai\u00e1s. One of its most important constructions takes its name from it: the Centro Gai\u00e1s Museum. Its 6,600 m2 of exhibition area is ready to host <strong>several exhibitions<\/strong> at the same time, but the protagonism during these months will reside in one in particular. Pensar coas mans. <strong>Cester\u00eda, cer\u00e1mica e xoier\u00eda<\/strong> de Galicia, curated by Ver\u00f3nica Santos, is a journey through time in search of the roots of Galician craftsmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/test.dagic.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pensar-coas-mans-hilos-espejos.jpg\" alt=\"Vista general con l\u00e1mparas Hilos y Espejos\" class=\"wp-image-14693\" width=\"700\" height=\"393\"\/><figcaption>Lamps Threads and Mirrors in the foreground during the opening day of the exhibition<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Three artisan branches, one structural idea<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In spite of the retrospective look, it can be said that these three historical craft specialities (basketry, ceramics and jewellery) are going through a good time. They arouse interest, even international, but their evolution and survival is not assured without anchoring them well to the present. They are an indissoluble part of <strong>Galicia&#8217;s identity<\/strong> and a renewed focus on spreading its truths projects them into the future. That is where the format designed for this exhibition comes into play, the fruit of the work of the renowned architect <strong>Izaskun Chinchilla<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/test.dagic.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pensar-coas-mans-platos-interior.jpg\" alt=\"L\u00e1mpara Platos, interior en Pensar Coas Mans\" class=\"wp-image-14911\"\/><figcaption>The Platos lamp has pieces designed by O Rulo, a reference craftsman in Bu\u00f1o.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is estimated that some 5,000 people work in the craft sector in Galicia and that there are <strong>635 workshops<\/strong> that sell their products under the brand Artesan\u00eda de Galicia. The exhibition goes back to prehistory to begin its journey through the artisan chronology of the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/test.dagic.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pensar-coas-mans-cesta-hilos.jpg\" alt=\"L\u00e1mpara Cestas con Hilos al fondo\" class=\"wp-image-14910\" width=\"700\" height=\"486\"\/><figcaption>L\u00e1mpara Cestas, with basketwork of cock in wood of chestnut tree of Enrique T\u00e1boas, last cesteiro of this discipline.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It arrives at the present time, focusing on the mentioned internationalization. Names such as Ojea Studio, Cer\u00e1mica Suve or Madriguera Workshop in the framework of ceramics for haute cuisine and decoration stand out for breaking frontiers. Also Idoia Cuesta, whose basketwork has aroused the <strong>interest of brands<\/strong> as powerful as Loewe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A referential essay on reinterpreted architecture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/test.dagic.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pensar-coas-mans-lamparas-dibujo.jpg\" alt=\"Tira de dibujos de Izaskun Chinchilla de tres de las l\u00e1mparas\" class=\"wp-image-14702\"\/><figcaption>Drawings by Izaskun Chinchilla for the project Pensar Coas Mans.&nbsp;Source: Instagram @izaskunchinchillaarchitects<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Inspired by the 7 architectural lamps from John Ruskin&#8217;s essay, Izaskun Chinchilla has designed four large structures that will form the backbone of the exhibition. Designed as an artistic installation, they are exuberant in terms of aesthetics and sustainxdc able in terms of the material used. It is at this point that he entered the Cartonlab project, taking charge of the production of all the lamps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/test.dagic.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pensar-coas-mans-hilos.jpg\" alt=\"L\u00e1mpara hilos en Pensar Coas Mans\" class=\"wp-image-14907\"\/><figcaption>L\u00e1mpara Hilos, made of wood to support the tension of the original interwoven, with corp\u00f3reos in cardboard.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Baskets, Plates, Threads and Mirrors are the names of the four lamps built. The first two have been placed totally hung and the rest partially, with some elements supported. An original format to house the 250 pieces resulting from the collaboration of 65 artisans and various activities programmed around them. For the safety of the structures in cardboard, a pre-gluing of the pieces has been carried out to create more resistant constructive elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/test.dagic.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pensar-coas-mans-piezas-composicion.jpg\" alt=\"Montaje de uniones estructurales de las l\u00e1mparas\" class=\"wp-image-14692\"\/><figcaption>Some examples of the structural joints of the lamps built to Think mans coas<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The parts of the process that required the use of cardboard were produced in various formats. We used <strong>4.6 mm thick EB<\/strong> kraft and <strong>7 mm BC kraft corrugated board<\/strong>. We also used Kraft Honeycomb and 15 mm thick white. It was applied both in pieces of lamps and in the complementary <strong>furniture<\/strong> that these included, such as tables or stools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/test.dagic.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pensar-coas-mans-espejos.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14906\"\/><figcaption>The spectacular result of the interior of the Mirrors lamp, which will host workshops, talks and demonstrations.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As for the wood, a milling machine was in charge of cutting the designs, which were painted, tested and properly classified in the workshop of Cartonlab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/test.dagic.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/pensar-coas-mans-piezas-taller.jpg\" alt=\"Piezas ordenadas sobre el palet para enviar a Pensar coas mans\" class=\"wp-image-14665\"\/><figcaption>The parts used for assembly, ready for packing and shipping<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A large group of professionals, with the fundamental contribution of the company <strong>Daexga<\/strong>, was in charge of the final assembly of the structures under the supervision of the architect <strong>Izaskun Chinchilla<\/strong> and the designer of Cartonlab responsible for the project, <strong>Sergio Morales<\/strong>. Among them, public representatives such as the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Rom\u00e1n Rodr\u00edguez or the <strong>Minister of Economy, Business and Industry<\/strong>, Francisco Conde. Both praised the innovative capacity of the artisans and specifically Conde thanked the Fundaci\u00f3n Artesan\u00eda de Galicia for its collaboration.
